Siófok – Balatonboglár (35 kms)
Start line: sunscreen, floppy hats, and lycra. We started on our epic adventure at 11.00. A light breeze was blowing to cool us as we pedalled along flat hill the strenous 2500 meters to the first stop for lunch. There was a beach nearby and we couldn’t resist a swim in the deliciously warm water (25 degrees).
This is how we passed the day. We pedalled a bit, ate good food, drank some beers and swam in the lake. At Balatonlelle we stopped for the best ice cream in Hungary according to Gyuri.
At Balatonboglár we got on the minibus to the Konyári winery about 7 kms uphill. In the meantime, Andrew, a cycle tourer from Australia made contact to say he was in town so we picked him up on the way.and took him to the wine tasting even though he is a sober man who rarely drinks alcohol.
There are just amazing views over Balaton from Konyári. So we had goose leg for dinner and a full wine tasting as the sun set over the lake. Delicate whites and punchy reds.
