Day Four

by Jim Barber, June 29, 2015

Badacsony – Balatonfüred (39 kms)

You might think that by the 4th day we got bored of slow cycling and the beaches. But actually it was not the case!
Although we were not in a hurry we had a busy day with new friends joining our adventure. We saw the heart shaped tombs in the cemetery of Balatonudvari, the military museum at Zánka, the old watermill at Örvényes and meantime enjoyed the beauty and the warm water of the lake. And also the fresh strawberry sold along the route. We had a big dilemma at Tihany: cycling uphill 2 kms to the abbey and the just blooming lavender fields in 30 degrees or swimming on the beach at the foot of the hill. Guess what the group decided…

The wine tasting at Söptei winery was special because the wine maker just returned from Budapest where the winery won the gold medal in the category of dessert wines ahead of Tokaji wineries. It is like winning a marathon ahead of Kenyans. smile emoticon
